The near and mid-term future of the existing Polish coal-fired power fleet is uncertain. longer-term operation unabated coal incompatible with climate policy economically challenging because increasing price CO2 emission allowances in EU. results techno-economic analysis presented this paper indicate that retrofit units, by means replacing boilers small modular reactors, may be an interesting option for energy sector. It has been shown can reduce costs relation to greenfield investments as much 35%. This focuses on repowering a 460 MW supercritical unit based Łagisza plant design high temperature nuclear reactors 320 MWth Kairos Power. technical analyses did not show any major difficulties integrating. economic proposed retrofits justified, and, respect, they are more advantageous than investments. For base scenario, difference NPV (Net Present Value) favorable 556.9 M€ discounted payback period pathway 10 years.
